As you know, Tiger Woods completed one of the greatest comebacks in the modern history of sport Sunday afternoon. After falling from grace and suffering through many injuries… and even a DUI… he seems to finally have put back all the pieces.
Now, I don’t know for sure if he’s fixed his relationships… but he’s sure fixed his golf game.
And when someone walks through hell and emerges on the other side, they are different.
Changed forever.
I know a little something about this myself. And my comeback is still underway…
The fire you confront changes you and you become harder and wiser. And you develop another key to success I’ll mention later…
Most people give up and make excuses when times get tough.
Oh, there’s too much competition in business… most people give up and work for someone else (giving up).
There’s too many great golfers playing in the X, Y, Z Tournament this year… I’ll work on my game and try next year (giving up).
Tiger had plenty of easy outs, didn’t he? The entire world bet against him… they almost seemed to be rooting for him to fail. And that’s sad to me because they are the same ones kissing his ass today.
Aren’t they? The good thing is Tiger knows who they are.
The phony media ‘experts’ who haven’t walked in his shoes.
Tiger would have a bad moment during his many comeback attempts and they were quick to jump on his back and criticize.
Weren’t they?
They deserve no respect and I don’t intend on watching these fools ever again… because they are ALWAYS wrong.
I could give two shits what they think anyway… it’s just their opinion.
They find ratings in criticizing others. They are the equivalent of the high school ‘Mean Girls’ who ridicule and criticize everyone else… and they are usually the most jealous too.
And as we know, jealous people are unhappy people who have self esteem issues. They welcome failure and being around others who fail too. Success is alien to them.
The primary driving factor, they were creating controversy for the sake of attention.
After all, better ratings equals more advertiser money.
It’s best to just tune them out entirely and go workout or listen to music or head to the golf course.
And while that’s easy to do for us, it’s hard when you are the focal point of all this talk.
Most counted him down and out and called him sad… because he put his ass on the line and was TRYING.
They kept asking…
SHOULD HE RETIRE?
A few years ago, at the lowest point of the Tiger fall, my son asked me if I thought Tiger could come back.
I don’t remember exactly what I said, but it was roughly this…
“He’s Tiger Woods. If he’s healthy mentally and physically, he will be back. Count on it.”
The talking heads and B.Shambles didn’t factor in the one thing that made Tiger a great golfer to begin with…
Mental toughness
Mental toughness can’t be taught but you CAN learn it.
You have to practice mental toughness to be ready for difficult situations.
And you must experience failure, pressure, mistakes, and everything else that comes along with life to be exposed to the fire.
Mental toughness stems from a belief that you can get through whatever difficulty you face.
Don’t believe you can, you WILL fail… mentally weak.
Some would call mental toughness faith.
Belief that things are going to work out in your favor if you put in the effort to the goal.
Today they kiss Tiger’s ass and tell him how great he is… and scramble to get him to come onto their shows.
Don’t waste your time listening to them any more… they are doing it right now, again, to Jordan Spieth.
As for Tiger, they never truly believed he could actually pull this off. They all said he should retire and ride off into the sunset.
They forgot what Tiger said two decades ago…
THIS HAS BEEN AND ALWAYS WILL BE ABOUT JACK NICKLAUS
There’s one problem with retiring for Tiger… he hasn’t achieved his ultimate goal.
He was never about winning ONE MAJOR.
This comeback was never about money either.
Tiger’s comeback was and still is about JACK NICKLAUS.
Jack is STILL the greatest golfer… he has more majors. It’s that simple.
Tiger said over 20 years ago he wanted to beat that record.
The talking heads seem to have forgotten it.
Tiger was written off by all of them… but Tiger never gave up on the GOAL of winning the most majors.
Can he do it?Yes.
Will he? Time will tell.
WHAT I LEARNED
He’s Tiger “Fucking” Woods, so don’t count him out until he’s dead.
And that’s what I learned from Tiger, NEVER GIVE UP, especially when the shit hits the fan and trouble is all around.
Dig in and fight!
What do you want out of life?
What do you want out of your golf game?
What can YOU DO TODAY to move the needle toward your dreams and goals?
Write those things down and go do them.Christian “I believe” Henning
