Every day brings challenges. Every week has its ups and downs. Every person is faced with dips and dark days – mine too.
Let’s face it, life can be pretty challenging and there are stretches where nothing goes our way.
Golf makes this all too clear.
Just look at Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods, and Ian Baker Finch… all were met with struggles, some self inflicted, some not.
They persevered.
When tough times arrive, there is ONE thing you must NOT stop doing.
Let me explain with a story from an interview I will never forget…
David Feherty was on the Golf Channel interviewing Lee Westwood outside in beautiful West Palm Beach.
The backdrop was incredible, and both men were sitting in wicker pool chairs enjoying the sunny weather.
Westwood is no slouch (although Judge Shmails is an incredible slouch) when it comes to playing golf. He has won the Order of Merit on the European tour.
However, Lee revealed that he was beginning to have some sinister thoughts about his swing. Starting at the end of the year he won the Order of Merit.
It’s amazing he was able to keep his game together and win the Order of Merit.
These swing thoughts led to a decline over 2 and a 1/2 years until Lee found himself nearing 200 on the money list.
To go from #1 to #200+ in a span of two years almost destroyed Lee. He was in danger of being relegated to a lessor tour if he didn’t fix things fast.
Lee talked to his family about quitting the game.. although, he had no idea what it is he would do outside of golf. He joked that
maybe he could of become a TV commentator since it’s easy and Feherty could do it.
After hiring the best coaches in the business, Lee was still struggling. Lee said he hired all of the guru coaches and they all essentially told him the same thing. Finally, he landed with David Leadbetter… still something was missing.
Lee Westwood, member of countless Ryder Cups, Order of Merit winner, leading money winner, and one of the top 10 players on the planet right NOW…
…seriously considered quitting competitive golf.
Lee had hit rock bottom.
Still not a quitter, Lee was determined to get his game back.
After reviewing tapes of himself during his slump, one thing stood out.
He had become bloated and fat.
Just then, he questioned… well who exactly were the best golfers? Lee noticed that all of the top golfers were fit and in
great condition.
Realizing this, he vowed to take control.
Lee had found a coach in Leadbetter and began getting himself in to better shape.
Shortly after, something magical began tohappen for Westwood…
…his game was coming back.
And while I am not saying being in shape is totally the reason, I think feeling better about who you are gives you a quiet
confidence.
Being physically fit, liking who you see in the mirror, gives you confidence.
Lee Westwood found confidence and a resurgence by paying attention to his fitness.
The confidence spilled over to his game and every other aspect of his life.
The same will happen to you.
I want you to sit and think for a moment on the following questions…
Do you hold the same positive and un-relenting attitude as Lee Westwood?
When tough times strike, can you keep on pushing?
When bad things continue to happen, are you determined to keep taking action?
Are you committed to never, ever, EVER giving up on what is important to you?
Listen, everyone suffers through setbacks, even the top Tour players.
We all have dark days and dips in the road.
There remains one undeniable truth.
No matter how tough your current situation, the fact is, somewhere else on this planet someone else has a tougher situation.
Probably worse.
And guess what, they are rose to overcome the challenges they face and pursue their dreams…
…because they never gave up.
It doesn’t matter where you are in life, in business, or in your relationships, if you’re going after something that matters, you just
have to Keep Doing.
Take Action.
Ask for Help.
Stop Procrastinating.
Never Give Up.
Keep on Going.
And when you fall, stand back up…
Failure is a chance to learn. Learn from your mistake, adjust, recalculate, and take more action.
Use your leverage.
And Push.
Strain and struggle.
Dig Deep.
And Push.
Just like Lee Westwood…
As the Golf Channel interview wrapped up, Lee made it clear he wants to win a major championship.
As he approaches the BIG FOUR O.. Lee has pulled up from his roots in the UK and moved to West Palm. This was a big
move for him because he loves the UK so much.. but he also knows he has been placing a roadblock in his path.
Bad Weather.
By moving to West Palm and allowing himself better weather to practice and play, he can make a run for that major that has
been out of his grasp.
In addition, Westwood will be upping his fitness… he knows he will need to be as fit as possible if he is to compete against the
younger and fitter golfers of this era.
I wish Lee the best and really hope he comes through with a major this year.
And so here’s what that means to us…
That no matter how dark the day, no matter how deep the dip in your life, when all else fails all you can do is keep on pushing.
Lee Westwood came back from a dismal game to a top ten world player.
I’m right here to give you the support you need.
Keep pushing,
