Winter is perhaps the saddest time of the year for me.
Probably because I’m addicted to the warm weather.
Temperatures are about to drop here in Oklahoma (just for a few days), but it’s a wakeup call that cold temps are around the corner.
Staring at my clubs and realizing the temperatures aren’t going to make for a pleasant round can be rather sickening.
In fact, cold winter days give me a fever…. and the only prescription is…
Golf.
Colder weather = less activity.
It’s easy to build up your lardiness… but more about dealing with that later…
So what do you do in the dark and dreary months when you can’t play?
Well.. one word of advice.. DO NOT GIVE UP GOLF for the entire winter.
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to stop practicing and exercising entirely.
So your round may be cut off… but that doesn’t stop you from:
- Buying an indoor putting green.
- Build an indoor putting green.. I’ve seen some cool setups our @getfitforgolf
Twitter members have built (tweet us a pic of yours if you have one). - Plan a trip midway through your winter to a warm and sunny location.
- Buy winter playing gloves (check out the blog for a picture of what I just picked up at Golf Galaxy)
- Add some warm weather attire to your wardrobe.
- Buy a cart cover and heater (priceless).
That’s just a few idea’s to get you thinking about how to prepare for this winter…
Lastly, the most important thing you can do to improve your game is to improve your flexibility.
Flexibility does not come over night. Time is needed to lengthen out your muscles.
Those tight muscles are killing your accuracy and distance.
The facts are clear. The science has been proven.

Tomorrow, I’m going to give you a sneak preview of my soon to be released stretching book… for your eyes only.
It’s just a small sample, but it will get you moving in the right direction this winter.
First we stretch…then we strengthen.
It’s a simple winter plan, but one that will have you kicking your buddies ass on the course next spring.
When I do release the book, you will be able to buy it at a special discounted price. I’m still working on it though..

Remember, I want you to start thinking differently about this winters golf preparation. You can come back next spring, better, faster swing speed, more flexible..
Most of all, dominate your golf buddies on the course.
Until tomorrow,
Chris “I Hate Winter” Henning
