Home Distance Assessment So.. you want to break 80, 90 or 100? (it’s easier than you think)

So.. you want to break 80, 90 or 100? (it’s easier than you think)

So you want to break 80? Maybe you just want to break 90 or even 100?

I remember the first time I broke 80, back at Cedar Valley Golf Course in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Cedar Valley was very affordable and the head pro there (Duffy Martin) was cool enough to ‘waive’ the driving range fee’s for young golfers.

Growing up, I would go in and buy 1 or 2 tokens, whatever I could afford for the range. Duffy would always toss me a few extra tokens.

Not only was Duffy kind, he was actually pretty funny and an inventor.. check out this video:

Breaking 80 is a day I’ll never forget. I had such pride about my game and all the work I had put in. Best of all, I remember how proud my dad was.. he made me feel like I was the next Greg Norman.

Every time I play Cedar Valley, I always remember that day… I remember the pressure coming up 18 to just make a par.

I came close to breaking 80 so many times… only to miss by a single stroke.

That day though, something clicked and it all came together.

HINT: It wasn’t the clubs… or the ball that pushed me into the 70’s.

Back then, I used blades that were made from junk metal and a ball that you would laugh at today. I think it was probably a Spalding or something that was designed for distance. I think the total set was like $150 at Wal-Mart.

Let me ask you this…

How many times have you come close to breaking 80, 90, or even 100? Just to fall short by a few strokes?

Being that close is frustrating.

Unfortunately, close only counts in hand grenades and horseshoes.

Just a stroke here or there can make all the difference.

To get you over the hump, I recently asked my good friend Brent Cryer, PGA for 4 tips to help golfers struggling to break 80.

To be clear
 – I wanted suggestions to help you break 80, 90 or even 100.

Brent is one of the top teaching pro’s in the South Central section of the PGA. Many of his pupils have gone on to win state titles and gain college scholarships.

He knows what he’s talking about.

In fact, during every lesson I’ve ever had with my good friend, he is checking each on every one of these tips he gave me to share. If I’ve been hitting it bad and haven’t seen Brent in a month, I make an appointment.

What’s funny is that usually after 2 or 3 swings he has me back on target. That’s why I call him the Golf Whisperer… these 4 tips are the only things he has me adjust.

Think about that for a second…

I go a full month without the watchful supervision of a trained professional and my shots start to stray.

One quick visit back… my shots are back on target.

A few feet here or there, that’s the difference between a 79 and an 80… an 89 or a 90… or a 99 and a 100.

That’s just how powerful these 4 tips are to your golf game. It also proves how quickly we can start changing our approach to solving the puzzle that is our golf swing.

Tune in tomorrow, I’ll reveal 4 tips you can use immediately to break through the 80’s, 90’s, and triple digits…

Even seasoned players will benefit from re-visiting these foundations..
