I‘ve been struggling with some anxiety lately.
I also figured out what was causing it.
Then I discovered how to cure it.
So I wanted to give you some of my thoughts in case you are suffering from some form of anxiety.
Anxiety in your life… no matter what it is, WILL AFFECT YOUR GOLF GAME.
If you want to play your best, then you need a calm mind.
So here’s what I did…
Last weekend, I made a decision to quiet ALL of the turmoil going on in the World as we know it.
I turned off my TV.
My goal was to watch ZERO TV.
And I took it a step further and added the Internet to that equation.
I did keep my phone turned on, but I switched to airplane mode so I could listen to music.
I slipped into airplane mode and stealthily made my way to the golf course.
My phone was loaded with a great playlist the students of Golf Aggressive all worked hard on. I’ll drop that to you below (it’s on Spotify if you want to listen).
The practice plan I devised was simple… to be followed by lunch and then a round of golf.
I parked the Jag, put in my headphones and taped up my fingers.
Glove in back pocket, sunglasses on.
I walked up and grabbed a golf cart and slung my bag on.
I cruised in the cart to the chipping clock with War Machine by AC/DC cranking.
What happened next was almost magical.
I had successfully cut the cord.
As I began to chip, I went into a trance.
My thoughts began to slip away from Hurricanes, Earthquakes, movie stars, Presidents and national anthems towards golf.
And the longer I stayed, the more good music I listened to, the better my shots.
In fact, I felt anxiety slip away.
The feeling was that of being young.
Do you remember being young? You’d jump on your bike and be gone all day.
No phones, no emails, no texts…
You’d give your parents a vague idea of where you would be… but they didn’t really know.
I got this feeling back yesterday.
AND I LEARNED THAT I STILL LOVE GOLF.
I think we forget we love golf when we work so hard at it…
With the noise from needy actors, politicians and athletes and the ball and chain known as the ‘phone’… I think I lost sight of what’s really important to me.
I learned that movie stars, athletes, presidents, and news anchors only care about one thing…
The more we give them, the more they take.
I learned that they don’t care about you or me, they steal your valuable time like a needy lover.
I refuse to give it to any of them moving ahead.
TIME IS THE ONE ASSET YOU CAN NEVER GET BACK.
Be real careful about who you allow in your time zone.
So instead of focusing on supplying attention to energy vampires… I’m shifting my focus.
ME, my game, and how I treat my fellow man… and if I don’t like something… I’m going to do something about it.
I also learned that airplane mode is my new best friend.
Honestly, I enjoyed the break from the CRAP.
All this CRAP is raising your blood pressure, holding you back, and distracting you from improving your life.
Don’t get me wrong… I’ll still tune in occasionally, but only for special events like the President’s Cup, Masters, British Open (aka the OPEN, and others… but not many.
It was a good day…
Just so happens that Ice Cube’s ‘It was a good day’ is on the playlist below.
I gotta say, it was a good day…
PS. Here’s the official Golf Aggressive playlist on Spotify… it’s totally free to listen to:
