I think we can all relate to missing fairways and greens… and the anxiety that sets in about ‘saving par’ while we roll up to the green. 🙂
Saving par around the green is crucial if you want to break through your current scoring barrier… I’d say it’s as important or more important than putting.
After all, you can reduce your proximity to the hole when you miss a green… shrinking your average putt distance.
In fact, during our last Tap In Challenge, my student Mikael reduced his average proximity by 5 feet, 5 inches!
In fact, the entire Tap In Challenge group reduced their chipping proximity to the hole by 2.32’.
The group also was able to reduce their putts per round by an average of 3.4 strokes!
It’s safe to say that chipping the ball closer to the hole makes for easier putts.
I was able to measure my students results because I gave them three tests to perform at the beginning, middle and end of the challenge.
The Challenge was five weeks long and jam packed full of useful drills, games, lessons, and even workouts that synced with the challenge… a true mix of mind, body, and skill… and something that makes my programs unique I think.
The first assessment I use to measure my students results is the Three Hole Challenge… which is a game I created that’s similar to throwing darts.
My primary job as a coach is to make things fun so my golfers stay entertained and focused… the Three Hole Challenge does just that and it’s fun to compete against your buddies around the chipping green with this game.
The second test I assigned is called the Consistency Challenge… which is an assessment of your ability to get up and down. You chip to random targets and then putt out and score yourself… as mentioned above, the group average a reduction of 3.4 strokes a round.
The final test I assigned to the Tap In Challenge group was the Median Challenge… this basically just measures your Chipping Proximity to the Hole… the group reduced their CPH (Chipping Proximity to the Hole) by a whopping 2 feet 3 inches!
